Today Is Yesterday’s Tomorrow
Today Is Yesterday's Tomorrow
Predictions are bound by specific temporalities. On the one hand predictive technologies use data from the past to predict the future and are thereby based on the assumption that change is statistically unlikely. On the other hand, repeated predictions about the future of technology, orient people‘s imaginations and actions, thus influencing which technologies are considered inevitable and desirable. Thereby both the PAST and the FUTURE can act as temporal points of legitimization for actions in the PRESENT. Both obscuring the Present as a site where power distribution takes place.
